Each Sunday in Lent (February 28 - March 28) join us for The New Apostolic Church where we will learn more about the new models of “being” the Body of Christ in today’s world. We will learn from the most current thinkers and writers who see the church emerging to reclaim the essence of church of the first Apostolic age, and be Christ’s missionary outpost here and now. Father Scott will facilitate this provocative topic.

Lenten Potluck Series
Continuing this Sunday, we are hosting a Lenten potluck series in the Parish Hall each Sunday in Lent (Feb. 21—March 21). This year’s topic is “Walking in the Pilgrim’s Way”. Fr. Scott and Rose Wilkerson will share resources and experiences of the Christian Spiritual Tradition, including: spiritual maturity, creation spirituality, Celtic traditions and dreams as resources for spiritual growth. Each evening begins with Evening Prayer at 5:15, followed by a potluck supper of soup and salad, and a study session. Please bring soup or salad to share.
Repairing the Breach
This program is a deeply spiritual, 18 month long “truth and reconciliation” pilgrimage in and for our diocese, designed to help us repair the deep and painful breaches which have been caused by our long history of slavery, segregation and discrimination. This pilgrimage is being taken by Episcopalians all over the country, in response to a Resolution from the General Convention. The process begins with two identical training events (one at St. James, Black Mountain for the eastern half of the Diocese, March 13; and one at St. Andrews, Canton for the western half, March 20). Dain and Constance Perry from Massachusetts will be here to help us begin this important and challenging work. Each parish is being invited to send a “team” consisting of at least one clergy member and 2-3 “parish partners”. For more information, contact the Diocese of WNC: 225-6657.
Easter Lilies
Altar Flowers resume Easter Day (April 4) with Easter Lilies. Contact Kelly in the church office (669.2754) to donate an Easter Lily for the Easter service in thanksgiving or in memory of someone. A list of donors is printed in the Easter bulletin. Each lily plant is $10.
Original Play Tells Asheville Stories
“Always Expect Miracles,” the innovative production from a community performance project called Just Home in the Mountains, celebrates the stories and people that make Asheville unique. Homeward Bound of Asheville (a pathways to permanent housing program for the homeless) will receive 100% of the proceeds from the play. Audience members will recognize many of the stories portrayed — particularly those involving urban renewal in the 1960s and other true tales of desegregation and related civil rights initiatives. The production is led by a creative team called Community Performance Inc., which has produced plays in and about more than 20 cities throughout the country. To read more, click here. The play will be held at 7:30pm Thursdays - Saturdays and 2:30pm Sundays through March 6 at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 20 Oak St. Tickets are $16, $14 for students with ID and seniors, $12 for children, available at Pack Place, 257-4500, or at the door. Find out more about them at www.justhomeinthemountains.org
